Post Laser Treatment Instructions

The laser treatment has done its work, the rest is up to you!

Following these instructions supports optimal healing and tattoo fading.

POST-TREATMENT TIMELINE

0 – 3rd day (72 hours) Post Treatment

  • Apply wrapped ice pack to treatment area for 15 minutes every hour while awake, for first day. Reduces swelling, healing time and blistering (some blistering may still occur)

  • Avoid heat on the skin

    • NO HOT showers, sauna or hot tub

    • Absolutely avoid direct sunlight exposure on treatment area. Sun exposure to the treatment area can cause hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, slow skin healing and prevent tattoo fading. Cover the area with clothing whenever possible. If not possible, use broad-spectrum SPF 30–50

  • A Lukewarm shower is okay, but no direct high-pressure spray to the treatment area

  • Only clean skin with gentle soap and water

  • Until skin is healed

    • Keep treatment area LIGHTLY moisturized (details in Boost Healing section)

    • If clothing will rub on treatment area, cover with bandage

  • Avoid intense exercise for the first 72 hours to reduce heat, friction, swelling, and irritation to the treated area

4th day – 2 weeks Post Treatment

  • Continue to avoid all sun exposure to treatment area

  • Avoid picking or scratching the treatment area as it heals

  • Resume all other normal activities as long as:

    • The skin has visibly healed

    • Blisters or open skin have resolved

BLISTER CARE

Small blisters are common and usually do not require treatment. If a blister becomes large (dime size or greater), painful, or restricts movement, contact our office for guidance before attempting to drain it. Do not intentionally remove blistered skin, as it acts as a natural protective dressing.

HOW TO BOOST HEALING AND FADING OF TATTOO

  • Keep the skin lightly moisturized (skin should not be cracked and dry or soggy)

    • Approved fragrance-free moisturizers applied in VERY THIN amounts:

      • Aquaphor

      • CeraVe Healing Ointment

      • Plain Petroleum Jelly

  • Avoid Essential Oils, Neosporin (unless instructed to use) and Antibacterial soaps

  • Avoid ALL NICOTINE, it significantly reduces your body’s ability to remove the ink

  • Exercise of any kind starting on the 4th day after treatment

  • Sleep 7.5-9 hours a night. Poor sleep slows tattoo fading and skin healing

  • Hydrate to support normal skin healing and lymphatic function. Your lymph system carts away the ink in your skin and requires a large supply of water to work effectively

TREATMENT RESULTS

Tattoo fading results vary depending on ink color, tattoo age, depth, density, skin type, body location, smoking/nicotine use, immune response, and sun exposure. However, common real-world results fall into a typical pattern per treatment area and most tattoos are substantially removed after 5-15 sessions. Tattoo fading continues for weeks after treatment. Most clients achieve best results when sessions are spaced approximately 8 weeks apart per treatment area.

    2-3                    Major visible fading begins
